The Transcending of Otto Matique

Dukkha (abridged version for university viral marketing)

Film Description

When boiled down to the heart of the story it is about a college student who loses his identification card.  Tied to this skeleton is a commentary on the use of material items for identity and how easy it is to lose that artificial self.  Otto Matique, the protagonist is a story by himself:  he has an ordered world in which he studying for a major in physics.  When he loses his “identity” he loses his control.  His world becomes out of order, and he feels rushed.  He must refer to an inner peace and acceptance of the chaos before he can continue with his life.

My roles in the film

With three people working on this film for a school project we had to find a way to divide the work evenly.  In order to have us all collaborate effectively we divided up sections of the film to edit and shoot, while sticking to a central theme.  I focused more of my attention to the camera operation and the detail editing.  The quick edits allowed for the theme of Otto’s instability to permeate the style of the film.
