Giv’r
I love to ski, and naturally I gravitate to Warren Miller ski movies for inspiration both in film and on the slopes. When my cousin asked me to create a soundtrack for his ski movie I started as quick as I could.
Glacial Diamond is the end result. It is inspired by late 70′s soft rock with the electric keyboard and latin-based percussion track.
Until the film is finished check out more of Peter’s mountain slaying at his blog.
I used GarageBand’s stock loops to create percussion tracks to lay the ground work for the keys (also stock loops). I composed a simple horn line for texture and bassline to hold everything together. For the icing I threw in “brontosaurus wails” and looped airplane takeoffs. I ended with seagulls for a suggestion of a warm aprés ski.
While this is not the most techno-savvy project, it felt good to sit down and create a song, even with given parameters (a genre, time length) and limitations (equipment).
I have some Warren Miller VHS tapes. THEY ARE THE BEST.
You can hear the song and see the skiing here:
